BREAKING NEWS: PM to Name the New Phnom Penh Airport as "Techo Takhmao International Airport"

KANDAL: The Prime Minister of Cambodia has decided to name the new Phnom Penh International Airport as "Techo Takhmao International Airport" to emphasize the strength of the monarchy in Cambodia.

He has announced it at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new international airport in Kandal Stung district, Kandal province, Prime Minister Hun Sen has said that the new name was meant to show that Cambodia is a strong monarchy and that the word "Techo" refers to the commander Techo Meas Techo Yort that has a long history in the territory of Kandal province.

He adds: "Techo International Airport does not refer to me, but to the monarchy, because monarchy exisist, so the words Techo Oknha and Neak Oknha also exist."

The new Phnom Penh International Airport "Techo Takhmao International Airport" was built in 2019 with an investment of 10 percent from the Royal Government of Cambodia and 90 percent of Cambodian investors OCIC, worth about $ 1.5 billion. The airport is scheduled to be completed in 2023 and officially to be inaugurated by 2025, which can accommodate about 30 million passengers a year.
